Date
2024
Location
Fort McMurray, AB
Owner: Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors
Schedule: Planned: 6 days | Actual: 5 days
The Hangingstone River stabilization project addressed erosion and bank instability near Highway 63, a vital route in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As the river is a fish-bearing waterway, strict environmental protection measures were implemented throughout the project.
Access BridgeWorks stabilized the riverbank through in-stream and bankside repairs, including riprap placement using machinery and hand placement in sensitive areas, gully and washout repairs, and erosion control installations.
Continuous turbidity monitoring ensured minimal environmental impact, with hand-placed riprap in sensitive sections to protect fish habitat. The project highlighted Access BridgeWorks’ expertise in environmentally sensitive infrastructure work and collaboration with regulatory agencies.
