Islay Bridge Rehabilitation
Project type
Bridge Rehabilitation and Maintenance
Date
2025
Location
Islay, AB
Schedule: Planned: 75 days | Actual: 67 days
Cost: $1,350,000
The Islay Bridge, a two-span prestressed concrete girder structure carrying Highway 893 over the Vermilion River, underwent rehabilitation to address structural deterioration and extend its service life. Access BridgeWorks ensured single-lane traffic was maintained throughout construction while executing complex tasks such as bridge jacking, pier bearing replacement, deck joint repairs, and concrete restoration.
To support the work, the team designed and installed a temporary work deck at the pier for constructing post-tensioned concrete corbels, enabling the bridge jacking process. Despite a 250% increase in deck soffit repair quantities, the project was completed ahead of schedule. Access BridgeWorks’ adaptability and efficient traffic management minimized disruption while delivering a high-quality rehabilitation.
