Summit Lake OH Bridge Rehabilitation
Project type
Bridge Rehabilitation and Maintenance
Date
2024–2025
Location
Revelstoke, BC
Owner & Client: British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure
Schedule: Planned: 8 months | Actual: 6 months
Cost: $4,400,000.00
The Summit Lake Overhead Bridge, a 13-span, 144-meter structure built in 1955, carries Highway 1 over a CPKC rail line and the Eagle River, a vital salmon spawning habitat. Access BridgeWorks was awarded the rehabilitation contract in September 2024, tackling 67 UHPC beam-end repairs, deck joint replacements, pier strengthening, and 310 m² of concrete repairs, all while implementing strict environmental protections above an active rail line.
To minimize disruption, traffic was managed with single-lane alternating configurations at night, with steel road plates restoring two-way flow during the day. Despite a late-season start, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule, earning Access BridgeWorks a nomination for British Columbia’s Contractor of the Year Award for exceptional performance under complex conditions.
