Wabamun High Load Damage Repairs
Date
July 2026 - Current
Location
Wabamun, AB
Owner
Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors
Access Bridgeworks is currently completing the high load damage repairs to BF77534, a two-span prestressed concrete VF girder bridge carrying Range Road 40B over Highway 16 near Wabamun, Alberta.
The bridge was damaged when an over-height load travelling eastbound on Highway 16 struck the exterior leg of one of the girders, resulting in severe concrete damage, damaged reinforcing steel, cracking, and deformation of the high load bumper assembly.
The repair work includes:
• ~11 m2 of full depth and partial depth repairs to the damaged prestressed concrete girder
• Stirrup repairs and replacement
• Preloading of the girder prior to concrete placement to achieve the specified deflection
• Epoxy pressure injection of remaining girder cracks
• Removal and replacement of the damaged high load bumper assembly
The work is being completed while maintaining traffic through the Highway 16 corridor, requiring staged lane closures and coordination of access, preloading, concrete repairs, and installation of the replacement bumper assembly.
