The Lea Park Bridge, a five-span through truss structure carrying Highway 897 over the North Saskatchewan River, is a vital rural crossing for local traffic and commercial vehicles. In October 2025, a detailed inspection revealed multiple structural deficiencies, including concrete deck punchouts, a cracked stringer-to-floorbeam connection, and 180 failed rivets. The bridge was immediately closed, creating a significant detour for the community.
Access BridgeWorks mobilized within 24 hours of contract award to begin emergency repairs. The team quickly assessed the damage and implemented stabilization measures, including full-depth and partial-depth concrete repairs, epoxy injection crack repairs, and the replacement of the damaged stringer-to-floorbeam connection and replacement of 180 rivets with structural bolts.
To accelerate the repair schedule, Access BridgeWorks utilized two snooper trucks, one for critical structural repairs and the other for rivet replacement.
This approach eliminated the need for a staged reopening, allowing the bridge to fully reopen ahead of schedule. The team’s rapid response and efficient execution minimized disruption and restored this critical transportation link.
