The Taylor Bridge, a 700-meter structure on Highway 97 crossing the Peace River, is a critical corridor for 30% of goods traveling to the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Alaska. In 2022, structural concerns prompted restrictions on overweight permits and reduced speed limits, creating urgency for repairs.
Access BridgeWorks was contracted to strengthen a corroded gusset plate along the main load path. Within two weeks, the team mobilized with specially fabricated CAT 4 notch-tough steel, installed strengthening plates, replaced rivets with structural bolts, and recoated the connection. Using a snooper truck and hanging scaffolding, the repairs were completed in just 17 days, restoring the bridge’s full capacity ahead of schedule.
