Waskatenau Bridgerail Repairs
Project type
Emergency Repairs
Date
September 2025
Location
Waskatenau, AB
Owner: Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors
Schedule: Actual: 7 days
The Waskatenau Bridge, part of Alberta’s OSOW (Over-Size Over-Weight) corridor, facilitates the transport of heavy and oversized loads to northern resource developments. In November 2024, a collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck caused extensive damage to 16 meters of the bridgerail system and adjacent concrete elements.
Access BridgeWorks initially provided a snooper truck for the engineering consultant’s damage assessment and was later contracted for repairs. The work included fabricating replacement bridgerail components, performing partial-depth concrete repairs, and installing new anchor bolt assemblies and bridgerail sections. Completed in just seven days, Access BridgeWorks’ swift execution restored the bridge’s functionality, minimized traffic disruption, and ensured the safe operation of this critical heavy-haul corridor.
